Helsingin vihreä seura yhdessä Brysselin Vihreiden ja Vihreä Sivistys- ja Opintokeskus ViSiO:n kanssa järjesti 9.3.2019 Tackling the climate crisis -tilaisuuden, jossa keskusteltiin EU:n roolista ilmastotyön suunnannäyttäjänä.
Keskustelemassa olivat Bas Eickhout, toinen vihreistä kärkiehdokkaista tulevissa europarlamenttivaaleissa, Iiris Suomela, vihreiden europarlamenttiehdokas ja Tampereen kaupunginvaltuuston varapuheenjohtaja sekä Ville Niinistö, vihreiden europarlamenttiehdokas ja vihreiden kansanedustaja Turusta. Tapahtuman moderaattorina toimi Oras Tynkkynen, varameppi ja ilmasto- ja energia-asioiden asiantuntija. Tilaisuus veti musiikkitaloon noin 50 hengen yleisön.
Muutamia keskeisiä havaintoja, jotka nousivat esiin keskustelussa:
- Vihreä politiikka vaatii rinnalleen sosiaalipolitiikan, joka ottaa kaikki huomioo
- EU:n on pidettävä entistä paremmin huolta siitä, että oikeusvaltioperiaate ja vapaa lehdistö säilyy kaikissa jäsenmaissa
- EU:n säädökset ovat tärkeässä roolissa vihreän talouden luomisessa, ja voivat näyttää esimerkkiä koko maailmalle

Helsinki Green Society, together with the Brysselin Vihreät and Vihreä Sivistys- ja Opintokeskus ViSiO organised 9.3.2019 an event Tackling the climate crisis, which focused on the role of the EU as a potential frontrunner of the climate work.
Among the panelists were Bas Eickhout, one of the two green Spitzenkandidat (lead candidates) for the European Parliament elections, Iiris Suomela, Green European Parliament candidate and Vice Chair of Tampere City Council, and Ville Niinistö, Green European Parliament candidate and Member of the Finnish Parliament. The event was moderated by Oras Tynkkynen, member of the committee of the European Green Party, vice-MEP and an expert on climate and energy policy with long experience in Green Party politics. Event gathered around 50 participants in the Concert hall.
Some of the key findings that emerged in the debate:
- Green policies and social policies have to supplement each other
- EU needs a strong rule of law and freedom of press in every member state
- EU norms are important on creating a green economy
